MEET MARSHALL

Combat Veteran Retired US Army Infantry Officer that will STAND with the CITIZENS of WEST VIRGINIA to protect them and the Constitution!

I was born in the Summer of ‘69 to USMC Lance Corporal Steve Wilson and Dianne (Melton) Wilson at Parris Island Naval Air Station near Beaufort, South Carolina. Due to Dad’s work as a Marine and then as a pastor, we lived at different times in Louisiana, Mississippi, and North Carolina.

Upon graduation from high school, I enlisted into the Army National Guard as a medic, enrolled at Louisiana State University, and entered the Reserve Officers Training Corps to earn a Regular Army Commission as Second Lieutenant of Infantry. I graduated from LSU, earned my commission as an officer, and was assigned to Fort Riley, Kansas for four years.

I completed my four-year commitment and earned an honorable discharge then studied and worked to become a missionary. I performed my missionary service in the jungles of Peru, where I adopted two of my nine children. After returning to the US, I joined the Louisiana National Guard and taught ROTC at LSU.

Later, I was assigned as a plans officer to the team responsible for writing Louisiana’s All Hazard Operations Plan based on lessons learned during the response to Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. Shortly after completing those plans, we executed them during the response to Hurricane Gustav in 2008.

Next, I was assigned to command A Company (Sappers) of the 256th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, Special Troops Battalion. Our brigade was mobilized for deployment to Iraq and our unit was attached to the Combined Joint Special Operations Task Force in support of allied special operations in Iraq. At the end of our deployment, we returned to the United States with all assigned Soldiers, a Meritorious Unit Citation, and a number of individual decorations for valor and service.

Shortly after I returned from Iraq, I married the formidable Julie Barr who, at that time, lived in Martinsburg, WV. I moved from Louisiana to West Virginia and we bought a home in Back Creek Valley. After settling in and getting to know our neighbors, we engaged in grassroots politics which led to my first run for political office in 2016.

I won the primary by a slim margin and the general by a large one with no resources besides a compelling message, the help of some good friends, and my wife’s approval. Since then, I have stood firmly in the West Virginia Legislature for constitutional governance and individual Natural Rights even when it cost me votes, committee assignments, and the chairmanship of the Veteran’s Affairs Committee.

In 2018, I ran for re-election against an experienced and capable primary challenger and returned to the House to uphold the principles I had stated on the day I first announced my candidacy – constitutional governance and individual Natural Rights.

It has become evident to me that West Virginians need and deserve a Governor who has laid his life on the line to uphold and defend the individual Natural Rights of others and will continue to do so to his last breath. I meet that criterion and I have an extensive background in organizational leadership and operational planning which has compelled me to volunteer for this mission to become Governor of West Virginia and establish constitutional governance which upholds the individual Natural Rights of each citizen.
